Great food, great service, great ownership! It.Beef and the Burgers + Fries are 10/10 my only complaint is that it takes a while to make the food, even if you call ahead /: it’d be nice to come in and just grab my food and go every now and then.
We just picked up an Italian veggie for me and an Italian beef for my fiance. Both were delicious, but a little salty for our liking. Next time I'll try to see if we can get no salt added. Still, such a delicious combination of flavors in the sandwiches. Thank you for being so vegetarian-friendly! We both loved the shoestring fries.
It has been over a decade since the last time I've been here. And I have to say it's absolutely amazing food just like I remember it! What an awesome local gem! And I once again got so excited for the food I forgot to take pictures! Soo now you will have to come here and experience excellence for yourself!
Food and service is spectacular! The sandwiches always seem to have the freshest ingredients and the staff is always pleasant. It’s a tiny place and if you dine in, the atmosphere is meh, but you’re not going here for atmosphere. You’re going here for awesome creative sandwiches as well as burgers, dogs,, sides and others but the sandwiches is where they stand out.
Everyone knows how great the subs are here, it’s in the name. Have you tried the burgers? They are juicy and delicious, not to mention the best fries on Earth! We have sampled different desserts, the chocolate cake was insanely yummy!
My boyfriend raves about this sub shop. He was ordering lunch for us and I ordered a salad. Absolutely stunning, delicious, fresh salad. (California Fusion - highly recommend). When they say gourmet on the menu, they mean it! Great flavors!
I don’t know why it took us 4 years to try this place but glad we did! Looked at the menu and stopped at Italian veggie and was not disappointed! Shared the sandwich with my 1 year old and she kept wanting more!! My husband got the Al Capone and that was also delicious. We will be back and definitely will enjoy the outdoor seating!
I cannot say enough about this place!! 1/2 lb burger w fries for 8$ And it was piping hot, flavorful & absolutely delicious. The bag of fries was enough for two people and the same way ..extremely hot. this was my first time here and I will definitely be going back.. so many choices
For food, the quality of ingredients, especially meats & cheeses, puts Algonquin Sub Shop one distinctive notch above the bland corporate drag on Randall. The smoked gouda on my Smoke Stack and the melted cheesy beef was top notch. There's your choice of over twenty types of Italian style subs. At first bite, you can tell the sub rolls are baked fresh daily. There's that true Italian sub crunch of the pickle and lettuce. The subs hit the spot like torpedos. In terms of service, you're greeted warmly and called by name instead of the vacuous indifference of droids yelling numbers. This is what makes a beloved local business different from just another corporate franchise. As someone from Algonquin, I respect the fact this business has weathered 35 years of economic turbulence with their uncompromising commitment to quality and friendly Midwest service. Bottom line: premium sandwiches in an inauspicious, lower traffic location off IL route 31 instead of the roaring eight lanes of Randall. The atmosphere offers both indoor and outdoor seating and unique, seasonal decor, like a fun candy corn pumpkin turkey in the photo. Happy Fall y'all.
They say that Algonquin is the "Gem of the Fox River Valley", but as a huge ASS fan, I would call this sub shop the gem of Algonquin. We've been customers for almost 10 years at this point, and it never disappoints. There's a sandwich for everyone on the menu, and I find even the half size portion to be filling. I love that they have a good rotating selection of soups (I love soup). Multiple to choose from every day! Today I had a Potato Cheddar soup, yum! Also, the fries are shoestring style, and they are always crispy and wonderfully seasoned. For take out orders, they prepare your fries when you arrive, so they're guaranteed hot and fresh. And again, I find the "small" size fries to be generous. I will echo the sentiment that I know others have shared on social media: I wish they were in a position to expand their hours, particularly on Sundays. There are so many times where we will crave a sub and some soup on a Sunday, and they're closed! Otherwise, they are open until 6 pm - so if you're like me and don't start thinking about what to eat for dinner until sometime after 5, you could find yourself missing the window for ASS for the night.
